People‑Powered Place: Mirrabooka Town Square Upgrade

Mirrabooka Town Square is more than a public space - it’s a place shaped by the people who use it. Kardan Construction partnered with the City of Stirling and local community members, including Indigenous artists, to revitalise the square, creating a space that reflects culture, connection, and pride. The upgrade included new seating, playground areas, native planting, and public art installations designed in consultation with local residents. The project was guided by the principle that every element should serve both function and community identity, ensuring the square would be welcoming for everyone. Local engagement was at the heart of the process. Community members provided input on design decisions, artwork, and landscaping, while Indigenous artists contributed cultural motifs that honour the heritage of the area. Employment opportunities for local tradespeople and apprentices were also incorporated, giving residents meaningful pathways into construction and related industries. The result is a square that is not only visually vibrant but also a reflection of the community’s voice and values. It is a space where people can gather, children can play safely, and cultural identity is celebrated — a place the people of Mirrabooka can truly call their own.

Upskiling & Community

Kardan Construction believes that meaningful work opens doors. Through targeted employment programs and apprenticeships, the company provides opportunities for people who have traditionally faced barriers in the construction industry. These programs focus on skills development, mentorship, and on-the-job experience, giving employees the confidence and ability to pursue long-term careers. Many participants have gone on to secure permanent roles, with skills that extend beyond a single project or workplace. This commitment to upskilling is not only about professional development; it’s about creating pathways that strengthen families and communities. By investing in people, Kardan helps individuals reach their potential while fostering a more inclusive and resilient workforce. The program highlights how construction can be a platform for personal growth, practical learning, and lasting impact. It demonstrates that when opportunity is paired with support and guidance, people flourish — and communities benefit.

Working Together - Community Partnerships

Kardan Construction works closely with a range of community organisations to create meaningful opportunities for people across Western Australia. Partnerships with groups such as Outcare, WADE (Western Australian Disability Enterprises), Loop Upcycling, and FISH enable the company to deliver projects that go beyond bricks and mortar. Through these collaborations, Kardan supports employment for people over 55, apprenticeships for young tradespeople, and pathways for Aboriginal workers and sole traders. These partnerships are carefully chosen to align with both social impact goals and the practical needs of the projects at hand. The result is a network of relationships that benefits everyone involved: communities gain access to skills, employment, and inclusive opportunities, while Kardan benefits from a diverse, capable, and engaged workforce. Each project becomes more than construction — it becomes a platform for connection, capability, and contribution. These partnerships demonstrate how construction can be a force for good when purpose, collaboration, and community are placed at the centre of decision-making.
